Bangladesh US Security Dialogue concludes in Washington

<span style="background-color: transparent; color: #000000;">The 8th round of the US-Bangladesh security dialogue concluded in Washington on Wednesday. Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen and US Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Ambassador Bonnie Jenkins discussed a wide range of issues relating to defence and security cooperation between the two countries.<br />''<br />''The day-long meeting covered areas like UN Peacekeeping, and Bangladesh US Security Cooperation including cooperation in military training, maritime security, proposed defence agreements, defence purchase and capacity development. Regional issues like Rohingya, Indo-Pacific, counterterrorism and civilian security cooperation were also discussed during the meeting, said the official press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh.<br />''<br />''On the Indo-Pacific Strategy, a fruitful discussion took place, and Bangladesh expressed support for inclusive socio-economic development in the Indo-Pacific region.<br />''<br />''Two sides had constructive discussions on defence agreements like GSOMIA and ACSA. The US side praised Bangladesh's successes and leadership in UN Peacekeeping Operations. The US also expressed willingness to assist Bangladesh in the modernization and institutional development of its armed forces. <br />''<br />''Bangladesh raised concern over US sanctions on its elite law enforcement agency Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and urged the US side to reconsider the decision in view of RAB's pivotal role in fighting terrorism, violent extremism and transnational crimes. The two sides agreed to continue the discussion.<br />''<br />''The US delegation recognised that Bangladesh has emerged as a responsible country and is taking part in resolving global crises and problems. Two sides agreed to continue robust cooperation in counterterrorism and transnational crimes.<br />''<br />''Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen tweeted that an elaborate and fruitful discussion was held with the US on security cooperation, global peace keeping, cooperation in border management, and inclusive Indo-pacific cooperation for a more prosperous and secure region, counterterrorism and many more areas.<br />''<br />''The next Security Dialogue would be held next year in Dhaka.</span><br />
