Bangladesh urges OIC to protect jobs of migrant workers affected by Corona crisis

<span style="color: #222222;">Bangladesh has called upon the member states of Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC) to give utmost importance to the job retention of the migrant workers. <br />''<br />''Addressing the Executive Committee of the OIC, Foreign Minister of Bangladesh Dr. A.K. Abdul Momen said on Wednesday that the migrant workers are more exposed to the virus and they are susceptible to losing jobs due to economic meltdown caused by the Corona pandemic. He urged the member states to provide financial assistance and medical support to the migrant workers through humanitarian organizations till the impact of the pandemic is over.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Dr. Momen proposed to establish a COVID 19 Response and Recovery fund based on voluntary contribution of the member states to tackle the Corona crisis.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Emphasising the need to ensure food security, Bangladesh proposed to create a global network of interoperable agricultural commodity markets across the OIC to protect farmers in the aftermath of Corona crisis.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Bangladesh also called upon the OIC countries to connect the medical research organizations and equipment manufacturers to facilitate bulk production of the required medical items.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The Executive Committee of OIC made an urgent appeal to the international financial institutions, especially IMF and World Bank to write off debts of Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and provide financial assistance at concessional rate to OIC member states to combat the impact of COVID-19.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">This was announced in a press statement issued on Wednesday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh after the meeting of the OIC Executive Committee held through video conferencing.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The current OIC Executive Committee comprises of six member states- Bangladesh, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Gambia, United Arab Emirates and Niger. The meeting was chaired by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.</span><br />''
