Bangladesh to take legal action against online portals spreading rumours, fake news- Information Minister

<span style="background-color: transparent;">Government of Bangladesh will soon start taking legal action against the online portals and websites which are used to spread rumour and create instability in society. <br />''<br />''Speaking at a function in Dhaka on Thursday, Information Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud said that in 2009 there were very few online media portals but now there are so many such websites. He said that the online registration process for news portals is likely to be completed within this year. Action will be taken against those websites which are not providing news but being used to serve personal interest. <br />''<br />''He said fake journalists bring disrepute to the entire journalistic community and hence journalists should take initiative in tackling this situation. He called upon journalists organisations to provide training to journalists along with the government organisation. <br />''<br />''The government of Bangladesh started the process for the registration of online news portals in December last year. Government has announced that action will be taken against the news portals which don't register with the authorities.<br />''</span><br />''<span style="background-color: transparent; color: #000000;">More than 3500 news portals had applied for registration to the government till August. The government published a partial list of 'verified' news portals early in August this year.</span><br />
