Bangladesh to export 500 tones of Hilsa to India during Durga Puja

Bangladesh will allow 500 tonnes of Hilsa fish to be exported to India as a goodwill gesture during the Durga Puja. Commerce Ministry of Bangladesh gave the go ahead on Wednesday permitting export of Hilsa from Bangladesh as a one time arrangement.<br />'' <br />''Export of the popular Hilsa or 'Ilish' fish from Bangladesh was banned in 2012 after local business establishments called for controlling the price of fishes. Hilsa fish is reportedly smuggled out of Bangladesh causing loss of tax revenue to the government. In 2012, Hilsa export to India earned Bangladesh Tk 3 billion.<br />'' <br />''<span style="color: #222222;">Bangladesh accounts for nearly 75 per cent of world Hilsa production and nearly 2 million people get direct and indirect employment from its cultivation.</span><br />
