The Bangladesh cabinet has formed a high-powered committee to finalise the agreement on power import from India. <br/><br/>Briefing reporters in Dhaka, after a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today, the Press Secretary to Prime Minister Abul Kalam Azad said that a three member committee will examine and finalise the agreement to facilitate ratification of the deal.<br/><br/>India had agreed to supply to Bangladesh 250 MW electricity from the national grid during the visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to New Delhi in January this year. <br/><br/>India’s Power Grid Corporation and Power Grid Company of Bangladesh are working to set up an Inter connector grid to facilitate transfer of 250 MW of power from India to Bangladesh. <br/><br/>In addition to this India’s NTPC and the Power Development board of Bangladesh have also agreed to set up a 1320 MW joint venture power plant at a cost of nearly 1.74 billion US dollars to meet the power requirements of Bangladesh.
