<span style="color: #222222;">The government of Bangladesh announced the nomination for its highest civilian award-Independence Award for 2022 on Tuesday. Ten individuals and one institution have been selected for the award. The names were announced in a press release by the Cabinet Division on Tuesday.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Freedom Fighter Ilias Ahmed Chowdhury, Martyr Colonel Khandaker Nazmul Huda (Bir Bikram), Abdul Jalil, Siraj Uddin Ahmed, late Mohammad Sahiuddin Bishwas and late Sirajul Haque have been nominated for the award in the Independence and Liberation War category.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Renowned neurosurgeon and academic Kanak Kanti Barua and kidney specialist, Professor Dr. Md Kamrul Islam have been selected for the award in the medical category. Dr. Kamrul Islam runs a kidney treatment centre providing treatment for the poor and the needy people. He is credited with conducting the highest number of kidney transplants in Bangladesh.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Md Amir Hamza has been nominated for the Independence Award under the literature category. Late architect Syed Moinul Islam has been nominated in the architecture category.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The Bangladesh Wheat and Maize Research Institute has been nominated for the award in the 'Research and Training' category.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The Independence Award has been given every year since 1977 on the occasion of the independence day on 26 March. Each awardee receives a gold medal, a certificate of honour, and a sum of Taka 5 lacs.</span><br />
