Bangladesh has decided to confer the country’s highest honour ‘Bangladesh Swadhinata Sammanona’ on Former Indian Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi for her outstanding contribution to Bangladesh’s war of liberation in 1971. The decision to honour Mrs. Indira Gandhi with the award was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Dhaka on Tuesday.Briefing reporters after the cabinet meeting, Bangladesh Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad said, Bangladesh President Zillur Rahman will formally hand over the award and citation honouring Indira Gandhi to her daughter in law and Congress president Sonia Gandhi at Bangabhavan on the 25th of this month.Earlier, Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. Dipu Moni had said that Late Mrs. Indira Gandhi’s name was on top of the list of foreigners to be honoured for their contributions to the Liberation struggle of Bangladesh on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the country’s independence.AIR correspondent reports, UPA chairperson and Congress President Sonia Gandhi is scheduled to visit Dhaka to participate as Chief Guest in an international conference on Autism on July 25th at the invitation of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
