<span style="color: black;">Teacher's groups, students, cultural activists and social organisations of Bangladesh have demanded immediate release of a school teacher Hridoy Chandra Mondol arrested on March 22 in Munshiganj on charges of hurting religious sentiments of people.&nbsp;</span><br />'' <span style="color: black;"><br />''Dhaka University Teachers Association (DUTA) has called the complaint lodged against Hridoy Chandra Mondol by another employee as motivated. The DUTA statement said that it is mysterious that the case has been filed under the non-bailable section in a hurry. <br />''<br />''Demanding immediate release of Hridoy Chandra Mondol, the Dhaka University teachers said that If such practices are not eradicated, it would be difficult for teachers to conduct classroom activities.&nbsp;</span><br />'' <span style="color: black;"><br />''A student group organised a rally in Dhaka University area demanding release of Hridoy Chandra Mondol. The student leaders said that religious fundamentalism and superstition were on the rise in the country.</span><br />'' <span style="color: black;"><br />''Hridoy Chandra Mondol is an assistant teacher at a highschool in Munshiganj. On March 20, he had a conversation with his students regarding the difference between science and religion which was secretly recorded. Later a complaint was lodged that he made derogatory comments against Islam. His family has alleged that he has been receiving threats for some time. He was attacked a month and half back, said his wife, reports the local media.</span><br />'' <span style="color: black;"><br />''University Teacher's Network (UTN) also demanded unconditional release of Hridoy Mondol. In its statement, the UTN said that there was no attempt on the part of the teacher to insult the religion, but he was having a discussion with students in an academic manner. Prof. Bokhtiar Ahmed of Rajshahi University belonging to the UTN called it a well planned conspiracy to frame a popular teacher who engaged in scientific and rational conversation with his students. Prof Anu Muhammad of Jahangirnagar Univseristy called for a thorough probe into the episode. He said that a teacher's job is to instill a sense of scientific inquiry and thinking among students which Hridoy Mondol was doing.&nbsp;</span><br />'' <span style="color: black;"><br />''The Cultural group Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigosthi organised a protest in Dhaka on Friday demanding immediate release of Hridoy Mondol who said that science is based on evidence while religion is based on faith and both are different.&nbsp;</span><br />'' <span style="color: black;"><br />''Many other groups and civil rights organisations across Bangladesh have protested against the imprisonment of Hridoy Chandra Mondal and demanded his immediate release.</span><br />'' <span style="color: black;"><br />''The bail petition of Hridoy Mondol was rejected twice on March 23 and 28. It is coming up for hearing again on Sunday.</span>
