Bangladesh: river transport workers called off their indefinite strike

In Bangladesh, the river transport workers have called off their countrywide indefinite strike after tripartite talks between the shipping secretary, transport owners and leaders of workers. Shipping secretary Abdul Mannan Hawlader told reporters in Dhaka that the workers had agreed to withdraw strike. He said a 16-member committee has been formed with director of the Directorate of Labour, as its head to prepare recommendations after reviewing the workers' demands, including pay issues. The committee has been asked to report in two months. The inland water transport system had been paralysed for two days due to the strike.<br/>
