Bangladesh Rifles hands over 22 ULFA militants to India

At least 22 hardcore ULFA militants have been handed over to India by Bangladesh Rifles. Highly-place official sources in Guwahati said this morning the militants along with their family members were handed over to BSF at India-Bangladesh border along Meghalaya. The Assam Police took custody of the militants on Friday. The arrested militants included some top cadres Anu Buragohain, Bhaity Baruah, Biju Deka and Pradyut Gohain. Security sources said the ULFA leaders got in touch with security agencies and expressed their desire to come back from Bangladesh and the Government pulled diplomatic strings in the last few days to facilitate their return to Assam. The militants are likely to be produced in court at Guwahati on Sunday. AIR correspondent reports that the Bangladesh Rifles followed the same methodology when it handed over ULFA’s chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa and other top leaders including outfit’s foreign secretary Sasa Choudhury, finance secretary Chitrabon Hazarika and deputy commander in-chief Raju Baruah for handing over the militants to the Indian authorities in November last year.
