Bangladesh is reeling with yet another bout of floods, the second this year, affecting not less than 3 million people spread across 20 districts in the northern and northeastern parts of the country. Heavy rains and onrush of water from the hilly areas upstreams has resulted in a record number of embankments broken which has made life miserable for lakhs of people in the deltaic country. <br/><br/>According to the Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, 107 people have died due to floods since July this year. Jamalpur district reported the highest deaths at 27, followed by Sirajganj at 23, and Kurigram at 19. <br/><br/>Authorities have shifted over 5 lakh people in various shelters and on higher grounds. The government has deployed the army in highly affected areas, and has cancelled the holidays of all medical officials in the flood affected areas. Platoons of soldiers are working in some of the worst affect areas with life saving equipment. <br/><br/>Directorate General of Health Services authorites said over 1824 medical teams are working round the clock in the affected areas. Disaster Management and Relief authorities have distributed around 5 metric tons of rice and over 1.4 crore takas to the affected areas.
