Bangladesh records lowest daily COVID 19 infections since March 14

The COVID-19 situation in Bangladesh continued to show improvement as 1140 fresh infections were reported in the country on Wednesday. This is the lowest number of daily infections for COVID-19 in Bangladesh since March 14 when 1159 new cases were reported in a day. During the last 24 hours, 40 people succumbed to Corona taking the death toll to 12,045. The sample positivity rate was reported at 7.45 per cent. The recovery rate in the country now stands at 92.39 per cent.<br />''<br />''Bangladesh received 5 lakh doses of the Chinese Sinopharm Corona vaccine on Wednesday as a gift. During a ceremony to receive the vaccine, Foreign Affairs Minister Dr A K Abdul Momen said in Dhaka that Bangladesh expects to purchase more vaccines from China. He said that earlier, the Bangladesh government had some reservations on the Chinese vaccine as it was not approved by WHO. Dr. Momen proposed that Bangladesh could go for coproduction of the vaccine which will be a win-win situation for both the countries.<br />''<br />''Meanwhile, the rush of people to go to their respective hometowns and villages to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr claimed five lives in Bangladesh on Wednesday. In two separate incidents, four people lost their lives in stampedes on the overcrowded ferries on Shimulia-Banglabazar route in Munshiganj. Another young boy died due to heat stroke after falling sick on the ferry during the journey. <br />''<br />''<br />
