The Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be on her maiden visit to Tripura on Wednesday. She would be conferred Doctor of Literature honoris causa at the 9th Convocation of Tripura University by the Vice-President Mohd. Hamid Ansari. Union Minister of Human Resource Development, Shri Kapil Sibal will be present on the occasion.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson said in New Delhi on Tuesday that India and Bangladesh share enduring fraternal, linguistic and cultural ties. He said, the visit of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh to Tripura will further strengthen people-to-people links and enhance trade and economic relations between India and Bangladesh.

Cooperation between India and Bangladesh have been greatly enhanced with Prime Minister of Bangladesh visiting India in January, 2010 followed by a return visit by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in September last year. Dr. Singh was accompanied by the Chief Ministers of Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram .These states border Bangladesh. This underscores the potential for furthering the engagement and ties between the states of North-East India and Bangladesh.
