Bangladesh plans to begin work on Ganges Barrage

Bangladesh is planning to begin work on the construction of the Multipurpose Ganges Barrage by the end of 2012. Talking to reporters in Dhaka today after an inter-ministerial meeting on the Ganges Barrage project, Bangladesh minister for water resources, Ramesh Chandra Sen said that the special committee formed for the implementation of the Ganges Barrage, has chosen a suitable location for construction of the barrage at Pangsha Upazila in Rajbari. He said the committee has already finished one-thirds of the scrutinising process and the feasibility report is expected to be concluded by the end of the first quarter of 2012.The minister added that tenders will be invited for the construction of the barrage in April 2012 and Prime minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the construction work of the barrage by the end of 2012.
