Bangladesh observes 35th death anniversary of Mujibur Rehman

Bangladesh is observing today as a National Mourning Day to commemorate the 35th death anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rehman. It was on this fateful day on August 15 1975 that the Chief architect of Bangladesh’s Independence Sheikh Mujibur Rehman and all his family members except his two daughters Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and younger daughter Sheikh Rehana were killed by army officers involved in a coup. Bangladesh President Zillur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today paid tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing wreaths at his portrait in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in Dhaka to mark the National Mourning Day. In his message issued on the occasion of National mourning Day, Bangladesh President Zillur Rehman said the nation has become stigma free with the completion of the trial of the killers of Bangabandhu. In her message, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina called upon the people to work towards building a Sonar Bangla as dreamt by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rehman. Several programmes are being organised across Bangladesh to mark the 35th death anniversary of Sheikh Mujibur Rehman.
