In Bangladesh, the number of people showing symptoms of Anthrax infection has gone up to 120 in Sirajganj and Pabna districts. An 12 member expert medical team has been rushed from Dhaka to oversee the treatment of cases and also take preventive measures. The government has also taken steps to provide free medical aid including antibiotic treatment to the suspected cases of anthrax affected villagers by the upazila health officials of Pabna and Sirajganj . There have been no casualties so far. The cases of suspected anthrax infection was initially reported from a village in Sirajganj where it was suspected that the persons were infected by handling a sick cow which had died in the village. The livestock department has also intensified its vaccination programme to immunize the 5000 cattle present in the area.
