Bangladesh: Nanakshahi Gurdwara in Dhaka celebrates Baisakhi

<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;">The festival of Baisakhi was celebrated at the historic Nanakshahi Gurdwara in Dhaka on Friday, the 21st of April. High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh Pranay Verma took part in the celebration as the Chief Guest on the occasion. The 324th foundation day of Khalsa Panth was also observed on the same occasion.</p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;"><br />''</p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;">Hundreds of devotees from the Sikh Community along with others joined in the celebration which included kirtan and Ardas followed by Langar, the community feast. A Jatha of pilgrims from India also came to offer prayers and celebrate Baisakhi at the Nanakshai Gurdwara on this occasion.</p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;"><br />''</p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;">Highlighting the importance of Baisakhi, High Commissioner Pranay Verma said that the festival of Baisakhi symbolizes the spirit of brotherhood and togetherness. It shows the multicultural ethos of India. High Commissioner Verma said, the spirit of Khalsa Panth is service, sacrifice and kindness for others which is extremely relevant for the world today when humanity is facing so many challenges. He said, we should work to strengthen the friendship between India and Bangladesh inspired by these sentiments.</p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;"><br />''</p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;">High Commissioner Pranay Verma was honoured by the ceremonial offering of a Saropa, Kirpan and Gurgranth Sahib during the function.</p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;"><br />''</p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;">Nanakshahi Gurudwara in Dhaka is a historic and revered place of worship for Sikhs across the globe. Guru Nanak Dev visited Dhaka in the year 1506-07. The Gurdwara was built in 1830 to commemorate the visit of Guru Nanak. Guru Tegh Bahadur also stayed in Dhaka for over two years. The Nanakshahi Gurudwara at Dhaka houses two important relics including the wooden sandal of Guru Tegh Bahadur and two handwritten copies of Guru Granth Sahib. </p>
