Bangladesh mulling stricter lockdown in border districts: Health Minister

<span style="color: #222222;">The Bangladesh government is planning to impose stricter lockdown in border districts. Health Minister Zahid Maleque told media on Monday that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has instructed authorities to put the border districts unders strict lockdown after a sudden spike was noticed in these parts. He said that Coronavirus infection has gone up in the bordering districts which is a matter of concern for the government.<br />''<br />''Earlier, the government had imposed a week-long strict lockdown in the Northwestern district of Chapainawabganj on 24 May which has been further extended till June 7 to control the surge in COVID 19 cases.<br />''<br />''In Noakhali district, the local administration has started implementing the housewise lockdown following a sudden rise in the COVID 19 infection in the area.<br />''<br />''The local government has been given the authority to enforce a lockdown for the entire district or partially based on the assessment of the COVID 19 situation. Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam told media that the deputy commissioners, civil surgeons, Chairmen and Mayors have been asked to impose lockdown fully or partially in a district if the COVID situation deterirotes.<br />''<br />''Meanwhile, Bangladesh reported 36 deaths and 1710 new Corona Positive cases in the country on Monday. The death toll has gone up to 12,619 and the total number of cases is reported to be over 8 lakh. The sample positivity rate in the country stands at 9.41 percent while recovery rate is 92.48 percent.</span><br />
