The Supreme Court of Bangladesh today reserved the final verdict in the appeal case of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujbar Rehman assassination for the 19th of this month. The five member bench of the appellate division headed by Justice Mohd Pasazzal Islam has been hearing the case on a day today basis from October 5 this year. Five convicts which include dismissed army personnel Syed Farooq-ur-Rehman Sultan Shahriar Rashid Khan, Mohiuddin Ahmed, AKM Mohiuddin Ahmed and Bazlul-Huda, who are now behind bar filed the appeal with Supreme Court in October 2007 against the death sentences given by the Supreme Court. During the hearing for the last three weeks the defence counsel argued that the killing of Banga Bandu and his family members was done in a mutiny and the case should be tried under the army act. The Attorney general of Bangladesh Mahbubey Alam dismissed the claim that it was a mutiny and asserted that the incident was not only a conspiracy to kill Bangabandu with his family members but to also kill the modern democratic spirit of the nation and people involved should be punished.
