Bangladesh HC grants interim anticipatory bail to former Speaker Sircar

The Bangladesh High Court on Monday granted interim anticipatory bail for six months to former Speaker Jamiruddin Sircar, his deputy Akhtar Hamid Siddiqui and former chief whip Khandker Delwar Hossain in five separate corruption cases filed against them by the Anti Corruption Commission. The High Court passed the order following a hearing of five separate bail petitions filed by the opposition leaders. The court also also issued notices to the government to explain why the BNP leaders should not be granted regular bail in the cases. The Anti-Corruption Commission on December 28 last year filed the cases against the three senior BNP leaders and a former accounts chief of the Parliament Secretariat on charges of corruption, misappropriation of public funds and property during the BNP-led regime.
