The anti-talks faction of National Democratic Front of Bodoland, NDFB, Chief Ranjan Daimary alias D R Nabla was handed over to BSF by Bangladesh Riffles, BDR. Official sources said, Daimary, who was hiding in Bangladesh, was handed over by BDR near Dawki international border in Meghalaya early yesterday. BSF has handed over Daimary to Assam police who have taken him to Guwahati. NDFB was originally formed under Daimary's leadership as Boro Security Force on October 3, 1986 and on November 25, 1994; the outfit changed its name to NDFB. It had entered into a ceasefire agreement with the Government on May 25, 2005, but mostly flouted the ground rules of a ceasefire.

The group then split into two factions ‘ one supporting the ceasefire, led by B Sungthagra alias Dhirn Boro and the other hardline faction, led by Daimary, which called itself the real NDFB and sought to establish Bodoland.

The split came after the October 30, 2008 serial blasts in Assam in which Daimary was named as a mastermind by the investigating agencies. Daimary was suspended from the outfit by the other faction subsequently. The outfit has close ties with the ULFA and in many cases carry out joint operations.

Meanwhile, in Assam, a red alert has been sounded across the state following the arrest of chief of the anti-talks faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland Ranjan Daimary. Security has been stepped up at all vital installations, market places and other public places. Daimary, an accused in the October 30, 2008, Assam serial blasts, was picked up by Indian security forces early yesterday along the Indo-Bangla border. He is being brought to Assam by a team of top police officials and will be produced before the court after completion of formalities.
