Bangladesh extends COVID lockdown till June 6

The government of Bangladesh has further extended the ongoing COVID 19 lockdown in the country by one more week till June 6. <br />''<br />''The notification for the extension was issued by the Cabinet Division on Sunday. <br />''<br />''Bangladesh declared a countrywide lockdown on April 5 which has been extended several times since then. <br />''<br />''The last lockdown extension was coming to an end on Sunday, 30 May. <br />''<br />''Even though the spread of Corona in Bangladesh has remained under control, the government is taking measures  to prevent the spread of the virus in the country. <br />''<br />''Northwestern district of Chapainawabganj declared a 7-day long strict lockdown on 24 May after a sudden spurt in positivity rate going over 50 percent which subsequently declined to about 35 percent. <br />''<br />''The country has also detected 13 cases of B.1.617.2 variant of Coronavirus which was first reported in India. <br />''<br />''Detection of newer strains in the border districts has caused concern among the health experts in Bangladesh.<br />''<br />''Under the current restrictions, public transport including buses, trains and ferries has been allowed to operate at 50 percent passenger capacity. <br />''<br />''Shops, malls and factories are open with health directives in place. <br />''<br />''Restaurants and eateries are also operational by allowing only 50 percent of seats to be occupied. <br />''<br />''Banks are also open on a limited scale  in the country.<br />''<br />''Bangladesh reported 38 deaths and 1043 new Corona cases in the country on Saturday. <br />''<br />''<span style="color: #222222;">The Directorate General of Health Services reported that sample positivity rate at 7.91 percent and recovery rate at 92.48 percent.</span>
