A documentary film on the life and brutal killing of Shaheed Dhirendranath Dutta was released in Dhaka on Saturday. The release of the documentary coincides with the day in 1948 when Dhirendranath Dutta placed a motion in the Pakistan parliament to accord Bangla the status of one of the official languages of the country. Even though most of the members of the Pakistan parliament, including those elected from East Pakistan voted against the motion and it was defeated, it sowed the seed of the language movement that inspired the people to launch a powerful movement for Bangla language in 1952 which continued for a long time.
''
'' Subsequently led by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the people of the then East Pakistan revolted against Pakistan. The issue of Bangla language along with the economic exploitation of East Pakistan by West Pakistan, discrimination, brutality, communal and racist approach of Pakistan towards its own citizens living in the then East Pakistan created a deep resentment in the Bengali people. Ultimately, with crucial support from India, Bangladesh emerged as a free nation in 1971.
''
'' The film named 'Avanishwar' Directed by the renowned filmmaker Fakhrul Arefeen Khan shows the contribution of Dhirendranath Dutta in igniting the fire of language movement in then Pakistan and his brutal killing in 1971.
''
'' Dhirendranath Dutta's grand daughter, MP Arom Dutta recalled the day in March 1971 when Pakistan army dragged her grand father and uncle from their house and later brutally murdered both of them to take revenge against the patriot who stayed back in his land of his birth to serve the Bengali people when India was partitioned in 1947. She urged the government to include Shaheed Dhirendranath Dutta's speech of 1948 in Pakistan parliament in the syllabus to let students know the role he played in the liberation of Bangladesh.
''
'' Padma Shri Lt. Col. (Retd.) Qazi Sajjad Ali Zahir recalled the horrific atrocities of the Pakistani army in 1971 and his experience of spending a night in the house where Dhirendranath Dutta was killed. He called upon the young generation to know about the sacrifices of people who helped attain liberation of Bangladesh and imbibe the values of the liberation war.
