Bangladesh: Cumilla desecration suspect Iqbal arrested

<span style="background-color: transparent; color: #000000;">The Bangladesh police have arrested the person suspected to have put the Holy Quran in a Durga mandap in Cumilla which led to widespread violence in the country between October 13-16. Iqbal Hossain was identified earlier through CCTV footage by the Cumilla police. He was seen carrying a copy of Holy Quran towards the mandap and returning after some time with the mace of Lord Hanuman in his hand. <br />''<br />''The police said that the suspect was arrested from Cox's Bazar area on Thursday night and was sent to Cumilla, reports the UNB.<br />''There were media reports that Iqbal was mentally unstable and a drug addict. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said that there seems to be a planning in the entire incident. He said that the man who kept the Quran at the temple might have been instructed by someone else to do this. <br />''<br />''Meanwhile, 102 cases have been filed against more than 20,000 people in connection with the violence against the Hindu community after the desecration incident. 584 people have been arrested so far and the drive is underway to arrest the remaining offenders. According to the official news agency BSS, 117 platoons of para military Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed in 37 districts of Bangladesh and three metropolitan cities. The Prime Minister's office is also monitoring the situation on the directive of the Prime Minister, said Ihsanul Karim, Press Secretary to the Prime Minister. </span><br />
