The speakers urged the government to declare May 20 as the National Mourning Day to pay respect to the victims of Chuknagar massacre and complete the trial of war criminals at any cost.&nbsp;<br />''</span><br />'' <span style="color: black;">On May 20, 1971, Pakistani army aided by local Razakars carried out the largest single-day massacre at Chuknagar in Khulna district. The Pak-forces opened indiscriminate fire using machine guns at the civilians mostly belonging to the minority Hindu community who were waiting to seek refuge in India.&nbsp;<br />''</span><br />'' <span style="color: black;">Though the exact number of people killed is not ascertained, various estimates put the figure in several thousands. Speaking to Prasar Bharti in Dhaka veteran chronicler of Genocide in Bangladesh Professor Muntasir Mamun said that close to 10 thousand people were killed by Pakistani forces in Chuknagar in the biggest massacre in such a short time during the liberation war. Many women were also brutalised and the dead bodies were thrown into the Bhadra river.</span><br />
