A Chinese passenger arriving at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka has been detected with the highly contagious new Omicron sub-variant of coronavirus BF.7, reports the official news agency BSS. The premier science research institute of Bangladesh Institute of&nbsp; Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) Director Dr. Tahmina Shirin confirmed to BSS that the presence of a new variant was confirmed in the genome sequence reports&nbsp; of one of the four Covid-19 infected Chinese citizens who arrived in Dhaka recently.<br />'' <br />'' Bangladesh ramped up screening at all its international points of arrival after the spike in Covid-19 infections was reported from China and several other countries. In this process four passengers arriving from China were detected with Covid-19 virus at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.&nbsp;<br />'' <br />'' The new sub-variant of Omicron is four times more transmissible and its incubation period is shorter enabling it to infect larger numbers of people quickly.<br />'' <br />'' In the meanwhile, Bangladesh reported 17 new cases and zero deaths during the last 24 hours on the morning of Sunday. The sample positivity rate in the country was recorded to be 1.07 percent.
