Bangladesh is celebrating the 41st Independence Day today. The day’s celebrations began at dawn with a 31 gun salute by the armed forces at the Tejgaon Old Airport in the capital. Bangladesh President Zillur Rahman and Prime minister Sheikh Hasina placed wreathes at the National Memorial at Savar and paid tributes to the martyrs of the Liberation war. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also paid tributes to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum established in his house at Dhanmondi where he along with his family members was assassinated on the fateful night of August 15 in 1975. A children’s rally was also organised at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in the capital on the occasion of the Independence Day. King of Bhutan Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck who is visiting Bangladesh as a special guest for the country’s Independence day celebrations also witnessed the rally.
