Bangladesh is celebrating Eid amid the Corona crisis gripping the country and large sectors of economy under lockdown. Unlike previous years, people mostly kept to their homes and not going out to prevent further spread of the Coronavirus in the country.
''
''With Corona virus related deaths crossing 500 in Bangladesh on Sunday, most of the people avoided the traditional embrace that marked the Eid gatherings in the past. The traditional prayer inside a few major mosques in the capital city Dhaka was also staggered to avoid rush. In most of the places, people were maintaining social distancing inside the mosques while offering Eid prayers.
''
''The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) had issued detailed instructions for people to follow during the Eid celebrations.
''
''It had asked people to offer prayers only at the local mosques instead of Eidgahs or open fields. People were told to avoid embracing each other as part of ritual or shaking hands after the Eid prayers.
''
''
''DMP also asked people to celebrate Eid at their homes only and not visit their relatives. Mosque authorities were asked to clean the mosques with disinfectant before the prayers.
''
''Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina while greeting people on the occasion of Eid urged them not to move out and celebrate the festival at their homes.
''
''Prime Minister Narendra Modi phoned Prime Minister Hasina and both the leaders exchanged Eid greetings. In a tweet, Prime Minister Modi said that during the phone call both the leaders discussed the impact of cyclone Amphan and the present COVID-19 situation. Prime Minister Modi reiterated India's continued support to Bangladesh in this challenging time.
''
''The joy of Eid was dampened in Bangladesh under the twin challenges of cyclone Amphan and Corona pandemic ravaging the country. The Cyclone ravaged the South Western part of Bangladesh destroying thousands of kutcha houses, damaging embankments and killing people.
''
''Less than a week before the Eid, people of 26 cyclone affected districts found it hard to celebrate Eid with much joy. In the Khulna area which bore the brunt of cyclone Amphan, people offered the Eid Namaz standing in water that has entered wide swath of land under the impact of Cyclone. The Eid was celebrated in a low key manner in the country with prayers for the wellbeing of all.
