Bangladesh : BNP tells EU Heads of Mission it won't contest elections under current government

<span style="color: black;">A delegation of the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leaders led by Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir met the Heads of Mission of 8 countries from the European Union (EU) in Dhaka on Sunday. Briefing media after the meeting, BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said that BNP has made it clear to all those who are watching the situation in Bangladesh that it will not participate in the general elections under the current government led by Awami League.<br />''</span><br />'' <span style="color: black;">He said organisations like the EU are observing the current situation in Bangladesh  relating to human rights, democracy, freedom of speech, freedom of press etc. and the atmosphere for the next election. The BNP delegation discussed issues relating to these aspects with the EU Ambassadors, said Amir Khusru.<br />''</span><br />'' <span style="color: black;">BNP leader Amir Khusru further said that if the people of the country are unable to exercise their right to vote in the next general elections, Bangladesh will plunge into crisis. This is a matter of worry both inside the country and outside, said Amir Khasru. In this context, the EU wanted to know how the next elections could be held in a fair and participatory manner. <br />''</span><br />'' <span style="color: black;">Ambassadors of France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Denmark, Norway were present in the meeting under the leadership of European Union Ambassador Charles Whiteley.</span><br />
