Bangladesh bans Maududi books

The Bangladesh Government has ordered mosques and libraries across the country to remove all books written by a controversial Islamic scholar. The chief of the Government-funded Islamic Foundation said that the books by Syed Abul Ala Maududi encouraged militancy and terrorism. Maududi – who died in 1979 ‘ was the founder of the Jamaat-e-Islami Party. Bangladeshi officials say Maududi's writings promote radicalism and his ideological goal was to capture power in the name of Islam.
