The Bangladesh government has has banned the Islamist group Hizb ut Tahrir as their activities are threatening public security in the country. Home Minister Sahara Khatun said the government decided to ban the organisation after keeping the outfit under watch for a long period and based on a final report from intelligence agencies. The ban has come into effect from Thursday and people associated with this group have been asked to stop all their activities. Hizb ut Tahrir is the fifth organisation to be banned in Bangladesh along with organisations like Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami, Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh, Jagrata Muslim Janata Bangladeshand Shahadat-e Al Hikma.
