Condemning the incident, Road Transport and Bridges Minister and Senior Awami League leader Obaidul Quader said in a statement that such incidents hurt the fundamental values and ideology of Bangladesh, reports the official news agency BSS. He said that the attacks were carried out by the extremists and communal forces.<br />''<br />''Registering strong protest over the incident, Obaidul Quader said that the heinous incidents were carried out by an identified communal force to halt the pace of 'smart Bangladesh' being established under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He said such incidents strike at the very spirit of the Liberation War, Bangladesh's independence and its constitution. <br />''<br />''Minister Quader reiterated that Bangladesh is a liberal and non-communal country with no space for communalism and extremism. He said attempts to destroy communal harmony in the country will not succeed as Bangladesh is committed to uprooting the communal forces.<br />''<br />''Fourteen idols of 12 temples in three unions under Baliadangi upazila in Thakurgaon district were vandalised simultaneously in the early hours of Sunday. Local people of this northern district of Bangladesh told the media that such incidents never took place in the past and they were in fear after the incident.<br />''<br />''The DC of Thakurgaon assured that stern action will be taken against people involved in vandalising the idols.Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikya Parishad, Puja Udjapan Parishad and other organisations condemned and protested against the attacks. </span><br />
