<br/>The Bangladesh Parliament or Jatiya Sangsad has adopted a unanimous resolution reiterating the country’s full support for nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation. The resolution stated that any use of nuclear weapons would constitute an international crime against humanity and peace as it would result in a genocide with catastrophic global effects. <br/><br/>The resolution was placed before the house by the Speaker Abdul Hamid on Monday evening which was the last day of the fourth session of the Ninth Jatiya Sangsad or Parliament. The resolution was passed by voice vote. The main opposition BNP, however, was absent from parliament when the resolution was passed. The resolution was passed against the backdrop of the upcoming the Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference-2010 scheduled to be held in New York from May 3rd to May 28th this year. <br/><br/>The resolution emphasised on the need for complete nuclear disarmament and promotion of only peaceful use of nuclear power. The house also decided to send the resolution adopted in the Bangladesh parliament to parliaments in other countries urging them to support complete Nuclear Disarmament.
