The Bangladesh Foreign Secretary today said that his country wants to sign agreements with India on sharing of all common rivers, including the Teesta. Briefing journalists in Dhaka on Saturday, Foreign Secretary Mijarul Qayes said Bangladesh wants to sign a long term deal on Teesta's water sharing, but it requires hydrological survey data, which is a time consuming process. He therefore said his government would want to sign an interim deal on the Teesta's water sharing and this accord will give a foundation for the desired long term deal in future. During the Bangladesh Prime Minister’s visit to India, the two countries decided that the India -Bangladesh Joint River Commission should meet soon to resolve water sharing issues.
