The Bandh call in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra by Shiv Sena took a violent turn today after the protesters resorted to stone pelting, burning tyres and blocking road traffic. The Bandh was called to protest against the police firing in which a person was killed on Monday after the agitators set ablaze a police station in the neighbouring Nate Village in Ratnagiri district. The agitators are protesting the proposed Jaitapur Nuclear Power Plant in the Ratnagiri district. The issue also rocked the ongoing budget session of Maharashtra Assembly. Opposition demanded discussion over the firing incident. Currently the discussion is going on in the state Assembly. The Opposition also demanded judicial inquiry in to the firing incident and said that those found guilty should be punished. BJP leader Eknath Khadse said that the injured should be provided proper treatment. AIR part time correspondent (PTC) from Ratnagiri reports that the situation is still tense. All the services in Ratnagiri city have been affected due to the Bandh. AIR PTC also reports that protestors also attacked the hospital where the body of the person who died in the firing was kept.
