In Assam, normal life has been paralyzed in most parts of the Brahmaputra Valley districts of the Stat following a 12-hour bandh call by banned ULFA militant group from six this morning. Official reports said the bandh failed to evoke any response in the three districts of the Barak Valley while it received mixed response in the Guwahati city. Educational and banking institutions and other commercial activities remained affected due to the impact of the bandh call. Private vehicles are off the road. Government vehicles and Assam State Transport Corporation buses are, however, plying on the roads with security cover. Train and Air services are also not affected because of the bandh.

The banned outfit has given the bandh call in protest against latest arrest of two of their top Bangladesh-based cadres. The two militants – self-styled foreign secretary of the outfit Sasadhar Choudhury and finance secretary Chitrabon Hazarika- were handed over to the Border Security Force by Bangladesh Rifles four days back. The ultras are now being interrogated by the Special Investigative Team at an unknown place after the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court in Guwahati remanded them for 10 day’s police custody.
