Bandh hits normal life in NCH & Karbi Anglong

In Assam, normal life continues to be hit for the second day today in both North Cachar Hills and Karbi Anglong Districts following a 60-hour North Cachar Hills and Karbi Anglong Districts Bandh called by Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) from Tuesday morning. The Bandh is near total in both the districts. All shops and business establishments remain closed. Vehicular traffic is also off the road. Security has been stepped up across the both Districts in view of the Bandh. However, there was no report of any untoward incident so far.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, a delegation of Congress leaders from Karbi Anglong district of Assam led by Member of Parliament, Mr. Biren Singh met Congress president, Shrimati Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi with the demand for the creation of a state comprising Karbi Anglong and North Cachar Hills districts. According to sources in the Karbi Anglong Autonomous District Council in Diphu , shrimati Gandhi has assured them that she would discuss the matter with the Prime Minister, Mr. Manmohan Singh and the union home Minister, Mr. P. Chidambaram and then get back to Assam chief Minister, Mr. Tarun Gogoi. Last week, a delegation of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous District Council had also met Prime Minister, Mar Singh and the union home minister, Mr. Chidambaram in New Delhi with the same demand.
