Normal life was affected by the one day Jharkhand bandh called by the naxals today against the ongoing anti encroachment drive. The bandh adversely affected loading of minerals and long distance bus services. Security of railway tracks, important government buildings and other key installations has been beefed up. Our correspondent reports that the bandh evoked response in rural areas and small towns. Displaced people blocked the main areas in the Central Government PSU Heavy Engineering Corporation and the state Secretariat in Ranchi. The Arjun Munda Government had already announced a new rehabilitation policy for them by 28th of this month apart from releasing one crore rupees towards urgent relief works of the affected people. In the last one-and-half months, more than 4,600 illegal structures have been demolished in the state in the anti encroachment drive taken up on the directive of the Jharkhand High Court. It has affected more than one lakh people. It is estimated that more than 5 lakh people could become homeless in the next two to three weeks.
