Bandh affects train services in WB

In West Bengal, suspected Maoists exploded land mine on railway track between Godapiyasal and Midnapur stations in West Midnapur District early hours today. According to official sources, a major accident was averted after the pilot engine of the Chakradharpur-Howrah passenger train noticed a huge crack on the track and stopped the train . Another land mine was also found along the track. As a result, Up and Down train movements in the section have been stopped. <br/><br/>AIR Kolkata correspondent reports that train services of the eastern and south-eastern railways have been affected due to squatting on rail tracks by the bandh supporters at different places. <br/><br/>According to a rough estimate by the Indian Chamber of<br/>Commerce (ICC), the total loss due to a 12-hour bandh in West Bengal would be approximately 500 crore rupees of the Gross State Domestic Product. ICC Senior Vice-President P Jayanta Roy said this mainly includes loss of investors' interests, damage to state's impression to prospective investors, damage to industrial climate, socio-political unrest etc.<br/>
