In Nepal, normal life in Kathmandu and the adjoining districts was affected on Wednesday due to the bandh called by Newa Tamsaling Joint Struggle Committee. Tamsaling includes Kathmandu, Sindhupalchowk, Kavre, Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Sindhuli, Dhankuta, Bhojpur, Sankhuwasabha, Terathum, Parsa, among other districts. The committee called off the bandh in the evening and said it was successful. They had called the bandh demanding the promulgation of the new statute by 28th of May and guarantee of rights of the indigenous communities in the new constitution. They are also against the extension of the Constituent Assembly. As the deadline for drafting the new constitution draws near different communities and groups have started to put pressure on the Constituent Assembly. The day long bandh passed off peacefully while vehicular movement was off the roads in Kathmandu and adjoining districts. Markets and educational institutions also remained closed. In far western Nepal and few Terai districts normal life was partially affected due a bandh called by various smaller parties.
