Ban urges aid boost to deal with recession

UN chief Ban Ki-moon asked parliamentarians across the globe not to allow the global economic crisis to be an excuse for cutting aid to the world's poorest people. Noting that one hundred million people could fall into poverty by the end of this year Ban said the impact of the economic and financial crisis is most severe on the most vulnerable. <br/>Ban called upon the lawmakers who are participating in an event organisedby Inter-Parliamentary Union at the UN to enhance their aid to developing countries. <br/> <br/>The theme for this year’ parliamentary hearing is to chart out methods of dealing with the global economic crisis. Ban highlighted key elements in the UN’s response efforts in alleviating the adverse impacts of the crisis.<br/> <br/>
