Ban on sale, purchase of cattle for slaughter nothing to do with state: Jaitley

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today said the Centre's ban on sale and purchase of cattle from animal markets for slaughter has nothing to do with state legislations on animal slaughtering.<br/><br/>He said, the animal markets are meant for farmers and not for traders and notification deals with this aspects. Mr. Jaitley told media in New Delhi that every state has its own legislation or no legislation with regard to slaughter of cattle. But there is a provision in the Constitution which says that certain category of animals have to be protected.<br/><br/>Last week the Environment Ministry notified the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Regulation of Livestock Markets) Rules 2017 banning sale and purchase of cattle from animal markets for slaughter.
