In Kerala, deep sea trawling ban will come into force from tonight. Deep sea fishing using machanised boats will not be allowed along the territorial waters of the state till 31st of next month. However, the ban will not be applicable to surface fishing using traditional boats.<br/><br/>Some recent studies have shown that the annual trawling ban during the monsoon season along the territorial waters of Kerala has helped replenishing of fish stock of the region. <br/><br/>Deep sea fishing ban during this season is in place in Kerala for the last twentyfive years. Since the ban comes into effect from tonight more than 2000 trawl boats will not be deployed for another 47 days, facilitating regeneration of fish stock. <br/><br/>As per the direction of the centre other states along the west coast will also be imposing trawling ban during this period.
