UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has urged Syria to allow an international aid assessment team to enter Daraa. Expressing his disappointment, he told reporters in Geneva on Wednesday that assessment team has not yet been given the access, it needs. Mr Ban added that Syrian President had earlier assured him regarding permission to enter the area.Meanwhile, the Political and Media Advisor to Syrian President Dr. Bouthaina Shaaban has said that about 100 Syrian Soldiers and members of the security forces were killed by what she called the ‘armed terrorist groups’ in the country.According to Syrian official news agency Sana, Dr. Shaaban disclosed that the national dialogue has started in Syria and in this connection she met a number of opposition figures in Damascus last week, where the talks focused at issues related to information law, political parties and elections law. She added that government wants to use these incidents as an opportunity to try to move forward on many levels, especially the political level.Agencies quoting right activists have reported that Syrian army shelled residential areas in central Syria on Wednesday while heavy gunfire was heard as at least three residential neighbourhoods were hit by tank fire in the besieged city of Homs.The government's heavy-handed response has triggered new international sanctions. The European Union has decided to impose sanctions on 13 Syrian officials, prohibiting them from travelling anywhere in the 27-nation bloc. U.S. sanctions target the assets of two Assad relatives and another top Syrian official.
