Balakrishnan: Exploitation of human rights by rich people is biggest challenge

Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, Justice K G Balakrishnan has said the exploitation of human rights by rich and powerful people is the biggest challenge.

He, however, said human rights will never lose their significance and hoped they will grow with their expanding dimensions and their legal sanctity accorded .

Justice Balakrishnan said this while addressing the valedictory session of the one-month summer internship programme of the NHRC in New Delhi.

Congratulating interns on successful completion of their training in human rights and related laws, he hoped that they will make use of the knowledge gained in promotion and protection of these rights.

Speaking on the occassion, Joint Secretary of NHRC J S Kochher, said that apart from building awareness on human rights, the internship programme is also serving the purpose of national integration as its participants come from different parts of the country.

He hoped the interns will carry with them the value of spirit of unity, national integration and respect for human rights.
