Bahrain on boil: King’s talk offer rejected

Bahrain King Hamad bin Issa Al Khalifa has asked his eldest son, Crown Prince Salman, to start a national dialogue to resolve the country’s political crisis. A statement said that the prince, who earlier called on protesters to withdraw from the streets, is authorised to talk to all parties. However, the Shia opposition group in the country has rejected the King’s offer. Senior members of the Wefaq bloc said the Government must resign first and troops should be withdrawn from the streets of the capital Manama. At least 50 people were injured when the police opened fire on anti-regime protesters in the capital Manama on Friday. The protestors were defying a Government ban and marching toward the landmark Pearl square that had been the symbolic centre of the uprising.Earlier, angry people in the nearby village of Sitra buried the four people killed as the army enforced a tight clampdown across the capital. Thousands of mourners chanted slogans calling for the ouster of the al-Khalifa dynasty's regime.Earlier, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) pledged full political, economic, security and defence support to Bahrain, and expressed rejection of external interference in the Kingdom’s domestic affairs. Meanwhile, anti-government demonstrations were also reported in Jordan and Yemen on Friday. Eight people were injured in clashes pro and anti-government protestors in Jordan while five people were killed in demonstrations in Yemen.
