The BWF Japan Open Super Series Badminton tournament kicked off in Tokyo, with the qualification matches being played today. The main draw of the competition will begin from tomorrow. PV Sindhu is spearheading the Indian challenge, in the absence of ace shuttlers Saina Nehwal and Parupalli Kashyap. While Saina decided to give a miss to the tournament after hectic Indian Badminton League, Kashyap skipped the Japan Open due to ankle injury. World No. 10 Sindhu is playing her first international tournament after winning the prestigious bronze medal at the World Championships in China. Tanvi Lad is the other Indian shuttler accompanying Sindhu in the Women's Singles main draw. Ajay Jayaram, Sai Praneeth, Sourabh Verma and HS Prannoy are the Indians shuttlers who have already made it to the Men's Singles main draw. The Indian duo of Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy B.will play in the Men's Doubles section.
