Badaun rape & murder: All five main accused, including two policemen arrested

In Uttar Pradesh, five main accused, including two policemen, have been arrested in connection with the recent gang-rape and murder of two cousins of Badaun district.

SP City Badaun Man Singh Chauhan said while talking to media today.

The five accused named in the FIR, including constables Sarvesh Yadav, Chhatrapal and three brothers Pappu Yadav, Awadhesh Yadav and Urvesh Yadav have been arrested. Constable Chhatrapal Yadav was arrested late on Friday night and Urvesh Yadav was detained in the wee hours on Saturday, the police said.

The FIR was registered against seven persons including two unnamed men after an outrage over the incident.

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi today visited Katra Sadaatganj of Badaun and met the family of the victims.

AIR Lucknow correspondent reports, the people in the village are very sad but also furious about the outcome of the events.

They accuse the administration of sheer mishandling the whole situation.

Meanwhile, the fact that local Member of Parliament Dharmendra Yadav not visited the aggrieved family so far, has also put the ruling dispensation in an embarrassing situation. The family of the victims have demanded a CBI probe into the gruesome incident, saying they have no faith in local police.

Defending the government moves, the Samajwadi Party spokesman and minister Rajendra Chaudhary said that the administration is doing its best and the culprits have been arrested.

However, these incidents have given a much beating to the already tarnished image of state government on the law and order front.
