Three-month-old baby girl Afreen who was allegedly battered by her own father for being born a girl died this morning from cardiac arrest in Bangalore. Dr. Some Gowda, Medical Superintendent of Vani Vilas Hospital where she was admitted said that after a number of convulsions Afreen suffered a cardiac arrest.

Baby Afreen was admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of the hospital on Sunday with cigarette burns on her head, a dislocated neck and deep bite marks on her thighs and buttocks.

Her father Omar Farooq has confessed to having tried to kill his daughter as he did not want a daughter. A local court has extended till April 21, the judicial custody of Farooq. He was arrested on April 8 on a complaint by Afreen's mother Reshma.

She was allegedly a witness to the abuse of the deceased girl and has wanted the severest punishment for Omar Farooq.
