Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has been sworn-in as the 35th Prime Minister of Nepal. President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav administered the oath of office and secrecy to Dr. Bhattarai at a ceremony in Shital Niwas at Kathmandu today. The swearing-in was held in the presence of the Vice President, Chief Justice, Maoist Chairman Puspha Kamal Dahal, Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala, CPN-UML Chairman JhalaNath Khanal and other dignitaries. The 57 year old Vice Chairman of the UCPN (Maoist) had earlier served as the Finance Minister in the nine month Maoist government headed by the party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal-Prachanda after the Constituent Assembly in 2008. Following his swearing-in, Prime Minister Dr. Bhattarai administered the oath of office and secrecy to Bijay Kumar Gachhadar, Chairman of the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum as the Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister in the new Cabinet. The Madhesi Janadhikar Forum an alliance partner of the Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha, had voted for Mr. Bhattarai, ensuring clear majority for him on Sunday.
